End 1959, torrential rains completely fill the reservoir of the Malpasset dam upstream of the town of Frejus. On December 2 at 21h13, the vault suddenly collapsed in a terrifying crash. Within seconds, nearly 50 million cubic meters of water unfurl in the valley into a giant wave that sweeps away everything in its path, ravaging the countryside and lower area of Frejus. At 21:50 the wave has completed its work of destruction, slowly disappearing into the sea.

Frejus59 is the result of careful investigation of two years for the purpose of systematic research information to understand how the combination of situations and events predictable or unpredictable led inevitably to disaster.

It is 21:50 in railcar No. 157 - a "panoramic" four-car red and cream - linking Marseille to Nice just left Puget sur Argens. It rushes at 110 km/h with approximately 70 passengers on board. It descends the ramp which, from Les Arcs, takes the track to Fréjus.
